Ricochet
Privacy Policy
Effective and last updated: September 1, 2026
Silent Cal Productions, LLC, doing business as Ricochet ("Ricochet," "we," "us," or "our"), operates the Ricochet V5 website, mobile applications, application programming interfaces, and related services (collectively, the "Services"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the Services collect, how we use and disclose it, how long we keep it, and the choices available to you. It applies to Ricochet V5 and does not describe a prior version of the Ricochet website.
Important notice about analytics and third-party technology
When you visit the Ricochet V5 website or use a Ricochet mobile application, Ricochet and the analytics, hosting, security, content-delivery, and other providers identified in this Policy may automatically and contemporaneously receive technical and usage information. For Google Analytics and Firebase Analytics, that information may include a page or screen title, a normalized page route or location, the referring page, an event or interaction type, timestamps, browser, app, device, and operating-system information, an analytics or app-instance identifier, and an Internet Protocol address or approximate location derived from it. A page or screen title may identify the particular article, post, podcast, profile, group, meetup, or other content being viewed or used.
We use these providers to operate, secure, measure, and improve the Services, not to capture the text you type into private messages, drafts, support requests, passwords, or payment fields for analytics. By using the Services after this notice is made available, you acknowledge and consent to the collection, processing, and disclosure described in this Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Services. Browser and device choices that may limit analytics are described below.
1. Information we collect
Depending on how you use the Services, we may collect the following categories of information:
- Account and identity information. Username, email address, display name, password hash, account status, registration and login dates, membership tier, and authentication or account-recovery information. If you enable two-factor authentication, we store the information needed to provide and recover that protection.
- Profile and community information. Profile biography, avatar, city, state, country, website, and the posts, comments, reactions, follows, mutes, bookmarks, group activity, meetup responses, media, and other material you choose to provide.
- Messages, support, and communications. Private messages and attachments, drafts, support requests, form submissions, email preferences, and other communications with Ricochet. Private messages are encrypted at rest, but they are not end-to-end encrypted; authorized systems and personnel may process them when needed to operate, secure, moderate, or support the Services or comply with law.
- Membership and transaction information. Subscription plan, transaction and order identifiers, billing status, renewal dates, limited payment-method details such as brand and last four digits when supplied by a payment processor, and records needed for accounting, receipts, fraud prevention, and customer service. Payment processors and app stores receive payment credentials directly; Ricochet does not store complete card numbers or card-security codes.
- Technical and usage information. Internet Protocol address, approximate location inferred from the IP address, browser and device type, operating system, app version, language, referring page, timestamps, route or screen category, interactions with features, diagnostic information, and identifiers associated with a browser, app installation, session, or device.
- Notification information. Push-notification token, platform, app-project and installation identifiers, notification preferences, and delivery, open, and error information.
- Device content you choose to provide. Photos, files, or other media you select for upload. The mobile app may also store downloaded podcast audio, download metadata, cached content, recent searches, and preferences locally on your device.
- Information from other services. Subscription and transaction status from Stripe, PayPal, Google Play, or an Apple App Store service when available; delivery information from email and notification providers; anti-spam or security results; and referral or campaign information contained in a link you use to reach Ricochet.
2. Reading, listening, and political-interest information
Ricochet publishes news, opinion, political, cultural, religious, health-related, and other material. Reading, listening, search, and engagement activity may reveal or suggest a person’s interests or beliefs. Website and mobile analytics may receive the particular content title or category associated with a page view, content open, podcast play or download, or subscription action. Ricochet does not intentionally send private-message text, draft text, support-request text, passwords, payment credentials, or raw search terms to Google Analytics or Firebase Analytics. Search analytics use the length and category of a query rather than its words. Dynamic identifiers in private and member web routes are replaced with generic route labels before Ricochet sends web page-view analytics.
3. How we use information
We use information to:
- provide, authenticate, personalize, and maintain the Services;
- process memberships, subscriptions, payments, renewals, refunds, and receipts;
- publish and distribute content according to its selected audience and operate community, messaging, podcast, notification, group, meetup, and support features;
- remember settings, maintain sessions, attribute Ricochet promotions, and provide requested downloads;
- measure category-level use of the Services, diagnose failures, improve performance and accessibility, and develop features;
- moderate content, enforce our agreements, prevent fraud and abuse, protect accounts and systems, and investigate security events;
- communicate about accounts, transactions, security, support, product changes, and marketing where permitted; and
- comply with law, legal process, tax and accounting duties, and protect the rights, safety, and property of Ricochet, our users, and others.
4. When we disclose information
We may disclose information in the following circumstances:
- At your direction or to the audience you select. Profile fields, posts, comments, reactions, group activity, meetup responses, and media may be public, visible to members, or visible to a more limited audience depending on the feature and your choices.
- Service providers and processors. We use companies that provide hosting, storage, content delivery, security, email delivery (including Mailgun), push notifications and delivery infrastructure (including Expo, Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, and Apple Push Notification service), payments and subscriptions (including Stripe, PayPal, Google Play, and Apple where available), analytics (Google Analytics and Firebase Analytics), spam prevention (Akismet), bot protection (Google reCAPTCHA), internal operational alerts (Slack), and accounting support. They may process information for us under their own contracts and legal obligations.
- Third-party content and links. If a page contains or links to content from services such as YouTube, X, Bluesky, Truth Social, Rumble, or another external provider, that provider may receive your IP address, browser or device information, the referring page, and information about your interaction under its own privacy policy. Following an external link leaves the Services.
- Legal, safety, and enforcement reasons. We may disclose information when we reasonably believe disclosure is required by law or legal process, or is necessary to detect or prevent fraud, abuse, security incidents, or threats to rights, property, or safety.
- Corporate transactions. Information may be disclosed as part of a merger, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, bankruptcy, or similar transaction, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections.
5. Cookies, local storage, analytics, and similar technologies
Ricochet uses essential cookies and comparable storage to keep you signed in, protect accounts, remember settings, operate requested features, and maintain security. We may also store first-party referral and promotion-attribution information so we can understand which Ricochet campaign led to a membership transaction.
When configured on the V5 website, Google Analytics loads automatically as pages are used and may set or read analytics cookies or comparable identifiers. It may receive the information described in the important notice above, including a content-specific page title, normalized route and location, referrer, interaction event, browser and device information, analytics identifier, and IP-derived approximate location. Ricochet also records first-party operational and content statistics in its own systems. Google Analytics is not used on Ricochet’s administrative pages.
The mobile applications use Firebase Analytics. Firebase Analytics may automatically process app-instance and device information and may receive screen routes and titles, content and podcast titles, interaction events, app version, operating system, language, an app-instance identifier, and IP-derived approximate location. Ricochet does not use Google Analytics or Firebase Analytics to serve third-party targeted advertising.
You may limit cookies through your browser, use browser or network content-blocking controls, or use the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on where it is supported. Blocking storage or scripts may affect analytics and some Service features. At this time, the Services do not separately respond to legacy browser “Do Not Track” signals or Global Privacy Control signals. Other parties may collect information over time and across websites or apps when their analytics or embedded technology loads, when you interact with third-party content, or when you follow an external link, as described above.
6. Sale, sharing, and targeted advertising
Ricochet does not sell personal information for money and does not use personal information to serve third-party targeted advertising. We disclose information to analytics and other providers for the operational purposes described in this Policy. Some privacy laws define “sale” or “sharing” more broadly than an exchange for money. If a law applicable to Ricochet gives you a right to opt out of a covered disclosure, you may submit that request to privacy@ricochet.com.
7. Retention
We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including to provide the Services, preserve security and audit records, comply with legal, tax, accounting, and contractual obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Retention depends on the category and context:
- account, profile, membership, preference, session, notification, bookmark, reaction, and private-message information is deleted or deidentified when an account deletion is completed, except for the limited records described below;
- when an account is deleted, Ricochet removes the account holder’s authored post and comment text and uploaded media; neutral “Deleted User” placeholders may remain where needed to preserve conversation structure and other users’ contributions;
- transaction, contract, tax, and accounting records are retained for legally required and legitimate business periods;
- security, fraud-prevention, delivery, and diagnostic records are retained for periods appropriate to their purpose;
- private messages sent by a deleted account, notifications, bookmarks, reactions, device registrations, profile details, and uploaded media are removed when account deletion is completed, subject to legal holds and the limited exceptions described in this Policy; and
- backup copies are removed on a rolling schedule unless preservation is required by law or for security.
When deletion is appropriate, we delete, deidentify, or isolate the information from ordinary use.
8. Your choices and privacy rights
You may update many account, profile, notification, message, readability, and device settings in the Services. You may unsubscribe from marketing email through the link in the message, change push-notification permission in your device settings, delete downloaded audio from the app, and use browser or network controls to limit web analytics as described above.
You may request access to, correction of, export of, or deletion of personal information by emailing privacy@ricochet.com. Signed-in members may also request account deletion from Account settings on the website or in a Ricochet mobile application. A member-requested deletion is scheduled for 15 days later, immediately ends active sessions, and stops supported subscription renewals. A successful login before the deadline cancels the deletion but does not automatically restart a stopped renewal. Administrator-initiated deletion is immediate. When deletion is completed, Ricochet removes or deidentifies account and private data as described in Section 7 while retaining only limited contract, transaction, accounting, fraud-prevention, security, moderation, legal-hold, and deletion-proof records when permitted or required. We may need to verify other privacy requests. We will honor applicable rights and response deadlines, subject to applicable exceptions, and will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.
Depending on where you live and which law applies to Ricochet, you may have additional rights to know the categories, sources, purposes, and recipients of personal information; obtain a portable copy; correct or delete information; opt out of certain sales, sharing, targeted advertising, or profiling; limit certain uses of sensitive personal information; and appeal a denied request. You may use an authorized agent where applicable. Email us to exercise those rights.
9. Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information, including encrypted network transport, restricted administrative access, protected authentication credentials, and encryption at rest for private message bodies. No storage or transmission system can be guaranteed completely secure, and this Policy is not a promise that a security incident will never occur.
10. Children
The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
11. Processing in the United States
Ricochet and its providers process information in the United States and may process it in other countries where providers operate. Those locations may have different data-protection laws than your location.
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy to reflect changes in the Services, our practices, or applicable law. We will post the revised Policy at this URL, change the “last updated” date, and provide additional notice through the Services or by email when a material change warrants it. Prior versions are retained in Ricochet’s administrative records.
13. Scope of this notice
This Policy describes Ricochet’s information practices and the rights provided by applicable law. It is not a contract and does not create contractual rights or obligations beyond those imposed by applicable law or separately agreed in writing. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to describe our practices.
